Maharshi Patanjali Vidya Mandir celebrated the 71st Independence Day with strong feelings of patriotism. The programme began with the Lighting of the Lamp amidst the chanting of Saraswati Vandana. The boys of the NCC presented the Guard of Honour to the esteemed guests. The Tri-colour was hoisted by the Chief Guest Prof. R.C. Tripathi followed by the singing of the National Anthem led by the school choir. Thereafter the Chief Guest was accompanied by the Secretary of MPVM Samiti Prof. Krishna Gupta and the Principal Smt. Sushmita Kanungo on the Inspection of Parade. Prof. Krishna Gupta welcomed the Chief Guest Prof R.C. Tripathi, Vice Chancellor of Swaraj Vidyapeeth. She had words of praise for the activities organized by the Swaraj Vidyapeeth. She reminded the students that the idea of Swaraj was not to be restricted to a day or a week, but to make it a way of life and thought. She told the students that Swaraj was not the acquisition of power by a few but the acquisition of our ability to resist the abuse of power by a few. She reminded the students that our struggle for freedom cannot end until we have been able to rid ourselves of the evils in our society like illiteracy, poverty, terrorism and corruption.

 

The school choir presented a group song ‘Mukti Ke Sangharsh Ka Adhaar Hain Vande Mataram’. Ishaan Srivastava of class 12 delivered a powerful speech on the relevance of Swaraj. The students of the Secondary Section presented a beautiful dance on ‘Madhurashtak’ to celebrate the happy coincidence of Janmashtami with the Janmotsav of our Independent nation on this day in the year 1947. The science students of      Class 11 of the Biology section presented a tableau on Boycott of Foreign Goods beautifully co-related to the theme of Made in India. The class 11 students of the Commerce section re-lived the Jallianwala Bagh Massacre of 1919 and the spirit of our Freedom Movement. The little students of Patanjali Sarva Shiksha Prarambhik Vidyalaya presented an action song on Mera Mulk, Mera Desh, Mera Yeh Vatan.  A few students of the Mahila Swavalamban Prashikshan Kendra presented a stage show of some of India’s brave women. They showcased the contribution of Begum Hazrat Mahal, Rani Laxmibai, Sarojini Naidu and Suchita Kripalani as iconic figures of women’s role in the struggle for Independence.

 

The Chief Guest gave an inspirational speech urging students to make a new India based on the idea of Swaraj. He reminded the audience that this year was the centenary year of the Champaran Movement, but the road to success was still not complete. He told the students that they should not disregard or overlook the ills prevalent in the society; but should work to improve the condition of the country. He defined the meaning of Swaraj as self-discipline as much as it is the bonding with people. Love and good relationship are essential to Swaraj and he encouraged the students of MPVM to groom themselves to be able to provide good leadership in future.

 

The Principal of Maharshi Patanjali Vidya Mandir, Smt. Sushmita Kanungo extended the vote of thanks. She expressed her heartfelt wishes to the audience on this auspicious National Day. She expressed her happiness on the beautiful cultural presentation made by the students with the help of the teachers. She expressed her gratitude to Prof. R.C. Tripathi for inspiring the idea of Swaraj among the students. She thanked Prof. Krishna Gupta whom she described as the “backbone” behind the success of the school. She also appreciated the growing sense of awareness among the students towards the ideal of Swaraj, self-discipline and cleanliness which were essential to the shaping of good citizens of the country.
